This unit is about inclusive curriculum and assessment. Our tutor first made us choose activities that best suite our learning style and assigned us some tasks. After the activity, she introduced us to the main topic of this unit. From her strategy, I learned that this is how we must cater the needs of each student as a teacher. Unit 6: Curriculum Design

  Reflection Curriculum design is used to describe the purposeful, deliberate, and systematic organization of curriculum within class or course. It talks about relationship among curriculum’s components.  In my opinion, it guides teachers on what to teach, how to teach, when to teach, and the impact of teaching particular content. Under this unit we have three designs such as subject centered design, learner centered design, and problem centered design. Under each design we have three sub-designs. For this particular unit, we worked in groups and did gallery work through poster presentation. From the three main designs, I loved the learner centered design more because it places emphasis on learners. Learners are given freedom to choose what they wish to learn as per their interests rather than curriculum forcing what they must learn. when students are given freedom to learn through their interests, they learn better. Unit 5: Elements of Curriculum

 Reflection According to Tyler, it is critical as part of a comprehensive theory of organization to demonstrate which curriculum elements will serve adequately as organizing elements. The proper coordination of curriculum elements would ensure the success of a curriculum. The four main components of curriculum are aims, goals, objectives, and learning outcomes. From this unit, I have learnt that these four elements function as a guiding principle for teachers while developing their lesson plan. Within those elements are the three domains which we need to bear in mind: cognitive, psychomotor and affective domain. We as a teacher must keep these things in mind while catering the needs of each student. We learnt about these three domains in first semester in our teaching pedagogy module while planning lessons for micro-teaching, however, I did not know that it’s part of curriculum elements.

Unit 4: Curriculum Development Models

  After learning about curriculum foundations and the factors that influence the development of curriculum, we talked about models of curriculum. It described various curriculum design models such as the objective model, process model, Tyler's model, Wheeler's model, Walker’s model, and Kerr's model in relation to designing curriculum for a school. The lessons were delivered through group presentation, which made us go through each model thoroughly. This activity helped us to learn more about models and increased social learning skills as there was cross-pollination of ideas among us.  For me, Kerr’s model of curriculum design is the most applicable, which is an improved version of Wheeler's and Tyler's model. Any curriculum created using this model depicts four domains: objective, knowledge, evaluation, and school learning experiences.                                                                            Reflection   There are four bases of curriculum that acts as pillars of curriculum development. The four bases are nature of learning and learning styles, social forces, human development, and nature of knowledge. This unit mainly talks about the theories of learning and bases of curriculum that gives a description on how curriculum developers should design a curriculum according to the needs of a child. I have come to know that different students have different learning style which we as a teacher need to be mindful about, so that we can cater to the needs of different students.                                                                         Reflection Whatever we do in life, it is guided by the philosophy of an individual. Similarly, education system too is guided by four main philosophies which align with the Royal Kasho. Educational philosophy is the guiding principle which helps curriculum developers in bringing out the best designed curriculum. The four philosophies are perennialism, essentialism, progressivism, and reconstructionism. All these philosophies have values and goals that are required in 21st century. Essentialism aims to provide basic skills and knowledge to students, perennialism aims at teaching values and principles that are everlasting in the life of each individual, progressivism focuses on learning by doing, and reconstructionism on rebuilding.  ...

Unit 1: Conceptions and Aspects of Curriculum

  Reflection I never knew the exact definition of curriculum before, and I am still confused with the exact definition of curriculum. However, I got the idea of curriculum in education system which gives a detail of what, why, how and how well students learn in a systematic way with specific goals. From the first unit of this module, I have gained more knowledge about curriculum. Curriculum has four aspects known as taught curriculum, learned curriculum, prescribed curriculum and hidden curriculum, and six conceptions such as cognitive process, humanistic, social reconstructionist, technological, academic and eclectic conceptions to achieve the desired outcome. Each conception of curriculum has its intended goals, however in my opinion, eclectic conception of curriculum among six will be more applicable in our education system as it can integrate other conceptions like combination of humanistic conception and cognitive process conception.
